Fourth Reunion Letter

2007 Kjellberg – Kjallberg Family Reunion Letter #4

July 17, 2007

Dear Family,

This is our last letter before everyone travels to Seattle for the 2007 Reunion. We are finalizing our plans and want to catch you up on the last minute details.

The reunion is July 29th – August 1st at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. It takes about 2.5 hours to travel from Seattle to Port Townsend, which includes a ½ hour ferryboat ride. On Sunday, July 29th, ferries leave from Edmonds every 40 minutes, starting early in the morning. We have included a map to Fort Worden. Check-in time at Fort Worden is at 3pm in Dorm #225. Follow signs to the Administration Office. The dorm is a large white building to the east (water side) of the Administration Office. Dinner the first night will be at 5:30pm in our own dining/gathering room in the Commons Building that has been reserved for our group for our entire stay at Fort Worden.

We hope that your time at Fort Worden will be fun and relaxing. Some optional activities are planned, but if you feel like just walking along the beach, hiking the trails, visiting or shopping then that will be your choice. We recommend bringing a bathrobe as the bathrooms are down the hall from the rooms. Also bring a jacket, as the evenings can be cool. Remember to bring your pictures from past reunions and pictures of what your family has been doing since we last got together. Include any genealogy updates you may have gathered.

The talent show is Monday July 30th. What are you planning to do for the talent show? Bring any props that you may need. Sern is arranging a golf game on Monday July 30th for those that are interested and Greg is arranging a trip to Hurricane Ridge on Tuesday July 31st. We will be posting other activities in the dining room.

The Kjellberg blog is a good resource for travel information and description of Fort Worden. Also information about optional activities and other reunion items can be found there. The blog is continually updated so check it out. The address is http://kjellbergreunion.blogspot.com/.

We’ve planned the following activities for before and after the reunion for everyone who is interested:

Friday July 27th – Seattle Center (including Space Needle, Pacific Science Center, Children’s Museum, Experience Music Project). In the late afternoon everyone is invited to Molly and Dillon Cady’s home located on Haller Lake for swimming, boating and a salmon barbeque.

Saturday July 28th – Pike Place Market, Downtown Shopping, Seattle Art Museum, have dinner downtown, and at 7:30pm the Seafair Torchlight Parade which travels though downtown Seattle.

Thursday August 2nd – Seattle Aquarium, Seattle Harbor Tour, Outdoor Sculpture Park, Nordic Heritage Museum and the Ballard Government Locks/Ship Canal. A group dinner location will be arranged.

Friday August 3rd –Woodland Park Zoo, Pioneer Square Historic District, Seattle Underground tour, and at 7:05pm the Seattle Mariners vs. Boston Red Sox Baseball game.

Just a reminder: Seattle has a CityPass for $39.50 (half-off the price of individually purchased admission) per person ($24 for Kids) that covers admission to Seattle Aquarium, Argosy Cruises Harbor Tour, Museum of Flight, Pacific Science Center and Woodland Park Zoo. Check out their website at http://www.citypass.com/city/seattle.html to see if that would be a good choice for you. A pass may be bought online or when you arrive. It is valid for 9 days starting the first day that it is used.

Please call us when you arrive in Seattle. We hope to meet many of you at the airport if we know your arrival time. Also call us if you have any last minute questions. We are looking forward to seeing you soon.

Love from the Eskel and Oscar Kjellberg Families

Third Reunion Letter

2007 Kjellberg – Kjallberg Family Reunion

June 8, 2007

Dear Family,

We hope that you are enjoying spring. Here in Seattle, the April showers led into May showers and now a little sun in June. The advancement of spring has also brought us that much closer to the Kjellberg – Kjallberg reunion. We want to update you on the events and activities to come, as well as steps to take to join the fun.

The reunion itself will be July 29th – August 1st at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. It takes about 2.5 hours from Seattle to get to Port Townsend, which includes a ½ hour ferryboat ride. Check-in time at Fort Worden is at 3pm. We will include maps to Fort Worden in our final letter.

On Sunday, July 29th, ferries leave from Edmonds every 40 minutes, starting early in the morning. If you left early in the day, you could spend a few hours, prior to check-in time, exploring picturesque Port Townsend or go to snow-capped Hurricane Ridge that is part of Olympic National Park, near Port Angeles. This is about a 3-hour drive.

After the 3pm check-in at Fort Worden, you can settle in your rooms, socialize, or explore the area, before we meet together at 5:30pm in our own reserved dining room for our first dinner together.

When making your travel arrangements, be sure to take into consideration the time it takes to get to Fort Worden. It might be best to come to Seattle the night before. We are making plans for activities on the days before and after the reunion, so we definitely want you to come earlier or stay later if that fits into your vacation plans.

We are scheduling activities to showcase Seattle and the surrounding area. Some of the activities require prior reservations, so we will need a firm head count to schedule these. On the back of the payment form is a list of activities. Please return this form with your selections.

Because this is Seattle Seafair Week, we recommend that you make your hotel reservations early. You also have the option of staying in one of our homes. Please see next page for information.

The Kjellberg blog is up and running. Information regarding a range of hotels, description of Fort Worden, information about optional activities and other reunion items can be found there. The blog will be continually updated so check back often. The address is http://kjellbergreunion.blogspot.com.

It is not too late to join the fun, but time is running out. If you haven’t already registered, please send in your registration form now. The last payment is due by June 30th.

We are looking forward to catching up with all of you!

Second Reunion Letter

2007 Kjellberg – Kjallberg Family Reunion
February 11, 2007 Letter #2
Dear Family,

Hopefully your 2007 is off to a running start. For your relatives up here in the great Northwest, 2007 means we are now down to putting the final details together for the Kjellberg - Kjallberg reunion. To that end, this letter will hopefully serve to answer more questions than it creates as well as light a fire under those of you we haven’t heard from yet.
To bring you up to speed, we had hoped to get registration forms in by January 10th. Fortunately for those of you who haven’t yet responded, we are still accepting registrations through March 10th. In all honesty, registrations will stay open through June; however you can make our lives all kinds of easier by getting us your registration forms on the early side of March. When you turn in your registration, please include the $25 per family registration fee as well as 1/3 of the room and meal fees.

As we previously mentioned, most rooms have only one single bed. For adults and kids, the total cost for all 3 nights will be $80 per bed. There is no charge for children under 2 years who stay in portable cribs or the like. There are also a few rooms with two single beds; these rooms are $80 per bed. Please let us know your preference on your registration form. Families with young children will have priority for these rooms.

For adults the meals will be $113, for kids 4-8 $57 and kids under 4 years of age are free. Meals include 3 breakfasts, lunches & dinners.
On the back of the enclosed registration form is a list of Seattle activities for before and after Fort Worden. We ask that you circle any items you are interested in and prioritize those items from first to last if you are feeling particularly energetic. If there is something you would like to see/ do which isn’t listed, please feel free to write that on the bottom of the activity list.
We have reserved a block of rooms at Silver Cloud Inn for your stay in Seattle and hope to add a few other hotel choices. The Silver Cloud phone number is 1-800-205-6940, under “Kjellberg Reunion”.
The Kjellberg blog is up and running and further information regarding hotel special rates for before/after the reunion, description of Fort Worden, information about optional activities and other reunion items can be found there. The blog will be continually updated so check back often. The address is http://kjellbergreunion.blogspot.com.We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!

First Reunion Letter

2007 Kjellberg - Kjallberg Family Reunion
Save these dates! Sunday July 29th - Wednesday August 1st, 2007

Greetings Family Members,

Two years have passed so quickly since our extremely enjoyable 2004 reunion at Asilomar Conference Center in Monterey, California. Now your Northwest Washington relatives are planning the 2007 family reunion, to be held at Fort Worden State Park Conference Center in Port Townsend, Washington and want to extend an invitation for you to join us.

As many of you will remember, Fort Worden is where we held the reunion in 1989. The state park occupies 443 acres of wooded hills, grassy fields and sand dunes overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Port Townsend Bay. We will take a scenic ferry boat ride to get there.

We have reserved the same dormitory as before, with individual sleeping rooms and plenty of group gathering spaces. We have also reserved the chapel for our talent show - so start planning your talent now! There is a wonderful new dining hall with really fantastic food. We will have our own dining room each night.

Fort Worden, a former military fort has something for everyone. Some of the features are: expansive beach for swimming and exploring, marine science center, hiking trails, volleyball, softball, and tennis, great shopping in the quaint town of Port Townsend, golf at the local community course and of course covered porches for sitting and visiting. Check out the Fort Warden Website for pictures, a description of the site and things to do at: http://www.fortworden.org/

We realize that the reunion dates fall during the middle of the week, but these were the best dates that we could arrange even booking two years in advance. The good news is that the end of July can be some of the best weather with temperatures in the 70's (though in the northwest you can never rule out rain). Also, as the reunion is during the middle of the week we are hoping you will plan to spend some extra time with us in the Seattle area before and after the reunion.

There is so much we want you to see and do in the Seattle area…explore Seattle's underground, enjoy the open air Pike Place market, visit our world-class zoo, Seattle Center and Aquarium, explore the ever changing downtown with great shopping, visit the Ballard Locks and Nordic Heritage Museum, or take a bike ride along the 50+ miles of bike trails in the area.

There are also great destinations beyond the Seattle area including Mt Saint Helens, Mt Rainier, the Olympic Peninsula and Hurricane Ridge or a trip to Victoria, B.C. Canada.

We have posted a questionnaire on this website to let us know who, at this point, is planning to attend the reunion. Please fill it out and email it to us.

So start thinking of your vacation time for next summer. Your Northwest relatives are planning a wonderful family reunion and want all of you from Sweden and throughout the U.S. to be our guests. The best part of the reunion is having the family together, sharing with each other what has been happening in our lives, watching our children grow and building the bonds of friendship from one generation to the next, so please make plans to attend.

Love from the Kjellberg Family
